This course covers the following unit from Certificate III  of the Outdoor Recreation Industry Training Package SRO03.

LEVEL 1  Duration 1 day. Cost is $220.00 per person (incl GST)

[SRODRV001B] Drive & Recover A 4wd Vehicle (Basic course) ... and
[SROODR002A] Plan Outdoor Recreation Activities

This 1 day course is ideal for beginners or those wanting to brush up on previously learnt skills. This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to use appropriate range, gear and techniques to drive a 4WD vehicle through and over different terrain and apply basic vehicle recovery techniques.

SROODR002A (Plan Outdoor Recreation Activities) is a course requisite and covers such subjects as making logistical arrangements, selecting suitable outdoor equipment, planning food requirements, identifying water needs, planning clothing requirements and other non-routine situations.

Both units will be co-assessed and a Statement of Attainment will be issued on completion.

LEVEL 2  Duration 1 day. Cost is $220.00 per person (incl GST)

[SRODRV002B] Drive a 4wd vehicle in Difficult Terrain Using Advanced Techniques (Intermediate Course)

This course is designed to take the recreational or professional 4WDriver to the next level.  Our training sessions are limited to a maximum of eight participants to ensure each driver gets the maximum amount of 'hands on' experience. On successful completion of our training courses you will have:

- a greater understanding of how a 4WD works
- an increased awareness of hazard perception when driving both in urban and rural areas
- skills for negotiating obstacles when driving off-road
- a higher level of confidence for driving in difficult terrain
- the ability to problem solve in difficult situations
- an enhanced level of skills for driving in difficult terrain
- the skills required to recover a bogged vehicle
- nationally recognised qualifications

Subjects covered during the course include:-

- 4WD system review
- Choosing the correct gear for each situation
- Carrying out a routine vehicle safety check
- Steep hill ascents and descents
- Stall recovery technique
- Negotiating rocky trails
- Water crossings
- Driving in sand
- Mud driving
- Vehicle recovery with snatch straps and winches
- Minimising environmental impact
- Hazard avoidance
- Reversing through obstacles
- Changing a tyre

Level 1 and Level 2 can be undertaken as separate units, but we recommend to most of our clients that they combine these 2 units over a 2 day course. Cost for 2 day course (Level 1 and Level 2 combined) is $400 (incl GST). This is a saving of $40.

LEVEL 3  Duration 1 day. Cost is $260.00 per person (incl GST)

[SRODRV003B] Coordinate A Recovery Of A 4wd Vehicle Using Advanced Techniques (Advanced Course)

This course has been designed for participants who have already completed Levels 1 and 2 and covers the use of a variety of recovery equipment and advanced skills to recover 4WD vehicles in difficult terrain conditions.  An emphasis is placed on working in a safe environment when operating recovery equipment. Participants will get intensive 'hands on' experience in the correct and safe techniques used to recover a stranded 4WD vehicle.

 

Elements covered in this course include:

- Using a power winch
- Safely using a vehicle jack
- Equipment maintenance
- Using a hi-lift jack
- Recovery using a snatch strap
- Using an air jack
- Using a hand winch
- Auxiliary gear such as tree protectors, snatch blocks, extension straps & shackles.

This course is limited to small groups only. Dates are available on request.
